Little Tots Sunshine Childcare
During the month of February the children were introduced to more high frequency sight words. The children were introduced to the words “my”, “like”, “in”, and “here”. In addition to learning to trace and write these words, the preschoolers have started reading our beginning books using the sight words that we have learned in last two months.
During the month of February we celebrated our rich Black American history and American Presidents with books, crafts, and fun activities.
Little Tots Sunshine Childcare will be attending the play “The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other Eric Carle Favorites” on Saturday April 12th 11:00am at the Lincoln Way West High School Performing Arts Center. The ticket price is $6.00. The deadline for purchasing tickets is Friday March 14th.
As I review my curriculum and daily schedule for this year, I decided to include more time for free play to encourage unstructured child driven play. As a mother and an early childhood professional I understand the importance of preparing our children for higher learning and success in life. As a society we tend to put more emphasis on reading and writing in place of kids being kids and learning through play. Here’s an excerpt from an interesting article I found that I would like to share.

Alumni of the Month
JayQuan Ratliff was one of the first children that joined the Little Tots Sunshine family in 2008. JayQuan has always been a very energetic, focused, and intelligent child. He is always eager to learn and try different science experiments. JayQuan has continued to excel in elementary school where he is currently a 2nd grader in the Flossmoor Hills School. JayQuan does extremely well in all of his classes especially math and spelling. JayQuan participates in a math enrichment class and is looking forward to being invited to participate in the 3rd grade gifted program. JayQuan is also an avid sports kid; he participates in basketball and the Homewood Flossmoor Jr Viking football team. JayQuan’s exposure to quality early childhood education and great parental support has aided him in the past and will continue to encourage him in his quest for higher learning. Let’s congratulate JayQuan on his many accomplishments and continued success!
